Solo exhibition “Valguspesa” by Rasmus Marks at Jakobi Gallery

On 6 January 2026 at 17:00 the opening of “Valguspesa”, a solo show by Latvian artist Rasmus Marks, will take place in Jakobi Gallery, Tartu.

This is Marks’ first solo presentation in Estonia. The exhibition transforms the gallery into a “reconstructed space of thought”, inspired by Freud’s concept of space as an extension of the psyche. The works explore how a personal environment mirrors its inhabitant, with objects assuming bodily gestures, light breathing, paint splatters resembling a nose, and mirrors reflecting themselves.

Rasmus Marks (born 2005) lives in Latvia and studies at the Art Academy of Latvia. His paintings investigate the metaphysical structure of spaces, focusing on the subconscious impressions of objects and bodies. Themes of closeness, darkness and coziness recur in his oeuvre. He has been nominated for the Young Painter Prize in 2024 and 2025 and has shown in group exhibitions across Latvia, Lithuania and Belgium. He co‑founded the underground art space SAKNE.

The exhibition is curated by Latvian philosopher, writer and curator Igors Gubenko, who has organized shows for artists such as Daniela Vētra, MAREUNROL’S, Anna Dzērve and others, and contributed texts for fashion brand Fyodor Golan.

“Valguspesa” will be on view from 7 January to 30 January 2026, Monday‑Friday, 13:00‑18:00.
