Located in the village of Mircești, within the Ungheni district, Mircești Winery has turned a historic manor into a hub that blends traditional winemaking with contemporary tourism and local development.
The estate spreads over 15 ha of vineyards situated between 270 m and 340 m above sea level, providing optimal conditions for grape ripening. Thirteen varieties are cultivated, allowing the production of white, red, late‑harvest and orange wines, including several indigenous grapes.
The flagship label “Bardul din Mircești” aims to reach an annual output of 100 000 bottles and is already exported to markets such as Romania, Poland, Canada, China and Japan.
Founder Arcadie Foșnea explains that the project was created not only to make quality wines but also to showcase the natural beauty and cultural heritage of the area.
Modernisation efforts include the installation of a weather station for precise vineyard monitoring and the adoption of advanced pruning and disease‑control techniques.
For visitors, the winery offers tastings, a restaurant with a terrace, and 13 comfortable rooms. Additional services comprise guided vineyard tours, visits to local artisans, hiking routes, cultural events and traditional celebrations.
In September 2024, an 80‑km hiking trail called “Little Tuscany of Moldova” was opened, linking the winery with the Sculeni border crossing.
The development was supported by a €30 000 grant from the EU‑funded EU4Moldova: Focal Regions programme, administered by UNDP and UNICEF. The money helped furnish hotel rooms, purchase agricultural equipment and build a wastewater treatment plant.
The project created at least five permanent jobs and now employs around 40 residents from Mircești and nearby villages.
During a recent visit, Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu praised the winery for its international awards and its positive impact on the regional economy and tourism.
Mircești Winery is presented as a sustainable business model that combines quality wine production with rural tourism, contributing to higher living standards and greater international visibility for Moldovan wine.
