San Marino lights up for the “Christmas of Wonders” 2025‑2026

The traditional lighting ceremony of the “Christmas of Wonders” took place this afternoon in Piazza della Libertà, featuring the illumination of the 12‑metre “Great Star”.

Attending the event were State Secretary for Tourism Federico Pedini Amati, Tourism Office Director Annachiara Sica, Nextime CEO Alberto Di Rosa and artistic director & event director Simone Ranieri.

Light is the main theme of this edition. The sparkling decorations will enhance festive music and striking light shows across the historic centre, a UNESCO World Heritage site, including Piazza della Libertà and the Basilica di San Marino. The programme follows the edition’s theme “A Timeless Story” and offers live performances, installations at Piazzale Domus Plebis, and projected images on the Basilica.

Key attractions:

  • “Timeless Village” at Campo Bruno Reffi – creative workshops for making Christmas decorations, animated readings, a wooden horse carousel and a miniature railway.
  • Traditional Christmas markets in Via Eugippo and Via Donna Felicissima, offering gifts, handicrafts, local food products and traditional sweets.
  • Ice Park at Cava dei Balestrieri with a large skating rink.

The New Year’s celebration will be held on 31 December in Piazza Sant’Agata, starting at 22:15.

The festive lights will remain on until 6 January, extending the magical atmosphere. The “Christmas of Wonders” opens to visitors on Saturday, 29 November at 10:30, with the official ribbon‑cutting ceremony at 17:00 in Piazza della Libertà.
