On 30 September 2025 the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) announced that the 26th Global Summit will be held in Valletta, Malta, in 2026. The decision was disclosed during the closing ceremony of the 25th Summit in Rome, which gathered senior leaders from the worldwide travel and tourism industry.
The Maltese government, represented by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs & Tourism, the Malta Tourism Authority and other public bodies, will work with WTTC to organise a three‑day event that focuses on innovation, resilience, sustainability and long‑term sector growth.
Valletta – a UNESCO World Heritage city known as the “Jewel of the Mediterranean” – will provide a historic and picturesque backdrop for high‑level discussions, networking and knowledge exchange.
WTTC interim CEO Gloria Guevara highlighted that Malta’s tourism sector is projected to generate €3.6 billion for the economy in 2025, representing a 43.5 % increase over 2019 levels and supporting one in five jobs in the country.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs & Tourism Ian Borg described the summit as a milestone that will showcase Malta’s digital heritage, innovative approaches and hospitality, reinforcing the island’s role as a thought leader in tourism.
CEO of the Malta Tourism Authority Carlo Micallef added that the event will not only bring significant economic benefits but also strengthen Malta’s reputation as a centre of excellence for sustainable tourism.
WTTC Chair Manfredi Lefebvre emphasized the strategic importance of the summit for both Malta and the global industry, noting that the gathering will stimulate investment, promote sustainable practices and help shape the future of travel.
Further details – including exact dates, programme, speakers and registration information – will be released in 2026.
