
On 18 September 2024, Visit Greenland and Air Greenland took part in a celebration in London organized by Bradt Guides to mark the publisher’s 50‑year anniversary. The event also served as the launch platform for the first comprehensive guidebook dedicated solely to Greenland published by a mainstream guidebook house.
Anne Nivíka Grødem, Chief Executive Officer of Visit Greenland, expressed her pleasure at the collaboration: “We congratulate Bradt Guides on their milestone and thank them for promoting adventurous travel while highlighting Greenland’s unique appeal. Being part of their portfolio alongside other daring destinations is a source of pride for us.”
Katja Vahl, Marketing Manager at Air Greenland, added: “This achievement reflects the joint efforts of Visit Greenland and Air Greenland to position Greenland as a sustainable tourism product. The dedication of Gill and Alistair Campbell has resulted in a guide that will inspire and inform travelers worldwide.”
The guidebook project began in 2022 when the Campbells, veteran travel writers, were invited to travel across all regions of Greenland. Their itinerary was supported by Icelandair and the regional destination management organisations – Destination Disko Bay, Visit South Greenland, Destination Arctic Circle, Explore North Greenland, Visit East Greenland and Visit Nuuk.
After extensive fieldwork, the guide was published in July 2024, providing the most up‑to‑date English‑language information on the country for the first time in many years. The publication aligns with Visit Greenland’s strategy to spread visitor numbers more evenly throughout the nation.
Beyond the book, the expedition generated a collection of photographs and a travel‑tips article aimed at senior travelers, a key demographic for Greenland’s tourism market.
The London event offered an opportunity to showcase Greenland’s natural and cultural diversity to UK media and industry professionals, and to foster further partnerships.
