Macau has been recognised as the ‘International Favourite Destination’ at MATTA Fair 2025, where the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) also received the award for ‘Best National Tourism Organisation (NTO) Booth’ in recognition of its creativity and innovation.
The fair, called the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) Fair 2025, was held from 18 to 20 April in Kuala Lumpur.
It marked MGTO’s first physical participation since the Covid-19 pandemic.
Malaysia’s largest travel event showcased Macau’s rich cultural heritage, resorts, festivals, and cuisine, promoting the city as an ideal short-haul destination for Malaysian travellers.
Visitors had the opportunity to take part in arts and crafts workshops inspired by Macau’s fireworks displays and lion dance traditions.
The MGTO booth featured a collaboration with the Macau Leisure Tourism Services Innovation Association and Air Macau, offering travel tips and exclusive promotions.
In addition to engaging activities such as prize-winning games and souvenir giveaways, the booth also hosted events on the main stage.
This year’s fair welcomed 340 exhibitors and 1,750 booths, alongside a networking session — MATTA Connect — that introduced travel professionals to Macau’s latest offerings.
During the event, Macau highlighted its commitment to Muslim travellers by launching the Macao for Muslim Travelers – Halal Travel Guide.
Later this week, MGTO will host a delegation from Malaysia for the 13th Macao International Travel (Industry) Expo, scheduled to take place from 25 to 27 April.
In 2019, Malaysian visitation to Macau reached 206,277, though the figure declined to 181,941 last year.
