Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal has reopened after one year of renovation.

In a press release on Mar. 22, Singapore Cruise Centre (SCC) confirmed that the terminal's S$20 million upgrade includes faster immigration clearance, self-service check-in kiosks, and enhanced passenger amenities.

SCC, which manages the terminal, added that the improvements aim to streamline travel between Singapore, Indonesia's Riau Islands, and Malaysia's Johor for both leisure and business travellers.

Self-service kiosks and faster, passport-less clearance

Passengers can now check in more efficiently with 15 new self-service kiosks, allowing them to print boarding passes and luggage tags without queueing at counters.

Up to 70 per cent of passengers are expected to use these kiosks once fully operational by end-2025, said SCC.

The number of baggage drop counters has also increased from four to six.

According to SCC, immigration clearance is also now 60 per cent faster with the introduction of the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA)'s passport-less system at the terminal.

Singapore residents and departing foreign travellers can clear immigration using facial and iris recognition, reducing processing time to just 10 seconds.

To handle increased traffic, ICA has expanded the number of clearance lanes—arrival lanes from 12 to 26, while departure lanes have grown from 12 to 20.

New F&B outlets and other amenities

The upgraded terminal also features new food and beverage outlets, including Woon's Kopi by Killiney, Subway, Luckin Coffee, and Lepak Corner.

For families, an outdoor children's playground has been added, while business travellers can make use of "flexi" rooms that convert into meeting spaces.

Other new amenities include a prayer room and an additional departure lounge.

At the official opening, Minister of State for Law and Transport Murali Pillai highlighted the terminal's role in strengthening regional connectivity.

He said: "I am happy that more passengers can now enjoy the upgraded facilities when they pass through the terminal. These improvements will enhance the travel experience at the terminal and support more regional economic collaboration in the years to come."

SCC Chief Executive Officer Jacqueline Tan said, "We are pleased that the upgrade of Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal has been completed according to plan and within the projected timeline. With the seamless, contactless systems, optimised space, and new amenities, we are able to offer ferry passengers elevated user experiences. This enhances our role as a regional gateway from Singapore to Riau Islands and Malaysia, as economic growth generates higher passenger volumes in the coming years."
