Representatives from Thailand's Transport Company Limited, the Department of Land Transport (DLT) of Thailand and the Laos Department of Transport met in Vientiane, Laos, on September 4-5. The purpose of the meeting was to review and strengthen cooperation in the field of road transport between the two countries.
One of the main results of the discussions was an agreement to launch a new international bus route connecting Udon Thani in Thailand with Vang Vieng in Laos. The route, scheduled to launch in early November, will provide a direct link to the Laos-China railway.
Plans to explore and potentially introduce five additional bus routes were also highlighted at the meeting. These proposed routes include routes from Chiang Mai to Boten and Bangkok to Savannakhet, which are expected to improve accessibility and help strengthen economic ties between the two countries.
To enhance passenger convenience, transport authorities will expand ticketing through online and e-ticketing systems across all routes in an effort to simplify the booking process and provide travelers with more flexible options.
Bus services will be upgraded in response to growing demand. Special air-conditioned buses will be introduced on the Bangkok-Pakse route to enhance the comfort of long-distance travellers. In addition, more buses and flights will be added on the Mukdahan-Savannakhet route to accommodate increased passenger traffic.
Staffing at the Nong Khai immigration checkpoint will also be increased, according to Thai media. This measure is expected to improve service efficiency and facilitate the processing of passengers crossing the border.
The new measures are expected to provide significant benefits to travelers and contribute to the overall development of regional transport networks.
