The Kenya Association of Travel Agents (KATA) and Kenya Airways have confirmed that operations at all major airports in Kenya were severely disrupted on Wednesday morning, September 11, due to a surprise strike by aviation workers.
“Our inquiries to major airlines operating from Jomo Kenyatta (NBO) and other airports show that flights have been grounded due to unavailability of essential ground services,” said Dr. Joseph Kititu, Chairman of KATA.
As a result, both domestic and international flights are expected to be canceled or significantly delayed for an indefinite period.
KATA strongly encourages travel agents to immediately contact their customers and inform them of the current situation before they leave for the airport.
According to Reuters The strike is believed to be in opposition to Indian company Adani Group's proposal to lease and redevelop the airport. The court has already temporarily blocked this proposal, but the strike continues nonetheless.
