North Korea will open to tourism from December this year.
Chinese tour operators KTG Tours and Koryo Tours, which specialize in tours to North Korea, have confirmed that the country will open the city of Samjiyeon to tourists in December .
“Only Samjiyong has been officially confirmed so far, but we think Pyongyang and other places will open as well,” KTG Tours said in a post on social media.
Koryo Tours shares this optimism, saying it hopes the rest of the country will also be open to tourism by December.
The border reopening comes after four years of the country being closed to tourists in January 2020 to limit the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to bbc.com, since the closure, North Korea has only allowed Russian tourists into the country as the two countries forge closer ties.
According to Koryo Tours, North Korea has been working on development for many years tourism in Samjiyong, the most significant and sacred site on the entire Korean Peninsula, which is said to be the birthplace of Kim Jong Il, the father of current ruler Kim Jong Un.
