Air Botswana has announced details of the upcoming expansion of its core route network following the addition of three new 50-seat Embraer aircraft to its fleet.
The airline has announced that it will be adding and reinstating destinations to its network, connecting Botswana with other destinations in neighboring countries, including South Africa.
Mogolo Mokgosi, Air Botswana Sales and Marketing Manager, announced that the new routes include Kasane-Cape Town, Mount Cape Town, Kasane-KMIA and Kasane-Windhoek. Kasane is the center of a large number of lodges around Caprivi (Namibia), north-eastern Botswana, western Zimbabwe and southern Zambia. Maun is known as the gateway to the Okavango and Makgadikgadi Pans.
Botswana's capital will now also be connected to a third city in South Africa with the addition of flights between Gaborone and Durban. Flights between Gaborone and Windhoek will also begin soon.
The airline also announced the restoration of routes suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Air Botswana flights will soon be available connecting Kasane-Johannesburg, Maun and Johannesburg, and Francistown to Johannesburg.
Air Botswana currently operates three daily flights between Johannesburg and Gaborone and three weekly flights between Gaborone and Cape Town.
“The new fares... are designed to stimulate demand, increase sales and provide affordable airfares, especially in these new markets,” Mokgosi said. Flight schedules are not available at this stage.
The airline announced that it took delivery of three Embraer aircraft in June. The airline's chief executive, Lulu Rasebotsa, said that given Air Botswana's expansion plans, it was likely that it would soon need to acquire a fourth aircraft.
“The airline sees the acquisition of Embraer aircraft and route expansion as important steps towards to achieve financial stability and operational efficiency,” said Rasebotsa.
APG South Africa represents the airline in the South African market.
