The Department of Tourism Bhutan has made an important announcement indicating the abolition of compulsory travel insurance for tourists. This requirement was originally introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic to cover unforeseen emergencies, particularly medical expenses related to the pandemic. However, as the situation improves and as part of efforts to provide a more comfortable travel experience, the department has decided to remove this requirement.
The decision is intended to simplify travel procedures and make the process more convenient for tourists visiting the country. Although the mandatory requirement for travel insurance to obtain a visa has been removed, the department still recommends that tourists carry travel insurance as a precaution. This is to ensure that they are adequately insured in the event of any unlikely emergency arising from international travel.
By eliminating the requirement for compulsory travel insurance, Bhutan hopes to simplify the application process visa and encourage more visitors to explore its unique culture, landscapes and heritage. This adjustment reflects Bhutan's commitment to providing hospitality and convenience to tourists while maintaining necessary precautions for their safety and well-being.
