Travelers are shifting their preferences towards cooler destinations this European summer season, leading to the rise in popularity of countries like Sweden.
Coolcations named one of the key travel trends by Conde Nast Traveler 2024 is the term for the phenomenon of tourists avoiding the record summer heat of popular European destinations in search of milder climates.
Booking.com travel forecasts for 2024 show that 51% of travelers will consider the impact of climate change when planning their travel this year, and 56% plan to vacation in cooler destinations.
Google Trends data shows a 300% increase in the phrase "colder vacations" by compared to last year.
According to Visit Sweden, many regions are seeing an increase in tourism in the coming season, with overnight stays by foreign nationals expected to increase by 6% in Skane, by 11% in Dalarna and by 12% in Kalmar on the Baltic Sea.
The tourism organization explains this by an increase in travelers' attraction to cooler weather during the tourist season.
