In a tragic incident on Thursday, one foreign tourist was killed and five people were successfully rescued after a massive avalanche hit ski slopes in Gulmarg, Jammu and Kashmir.

According to reports, the avalanche hit the upper reaches of the Afarwat peak in the Afarwat area of ​​Gulmarg, where rescue teams quickly responded and carried out security operations.

The unfortunate event coincided with the ongoing fourth Khelo India Winter Games in Gulmarg. Initial reports indicate that seven foreign skiers were caught in an avalanche, highlighting the dangerous conditions faced by winter sports enthusiasts in the region.

Rescue and search operations are being carried out by Army personnel and a patrol team from the Jammu and Kashmir administration .

Reports also said that yesterday another avalanche destroyed the Sindh stream in Jammu and Kashmir's Sonamarg district, changing the flow of the reservoir. Hitting the Hung area of ​​Sonamarg on the Srinagar-Leh road, the avalanche blocked the flow of water in the Sindh stream, causing it to diverge in its path. To return the reservoir to its original course, authorities have deployed heavy equipment to clear the debris left by the avalanche.

Recent snowfall in Kashmir, ranging from "moderate" to "heavy" over the past three days, has increased the risk of avalanche. avalanches in the hilly and mountainous areas of the valley.
