This lake has the cleanest water in the world!

Imagine diving deep into a lake up to 80 meters deep and finding crystal clear visibility! Yes, the transparency of this lake is the same as that of distilled water (80 meters). We are talking about Blue Lake, located on the South Island of New Zealand. Researchers were more than surprised to find such bright visibility on Blue Lake, which is now considered the lake with the clearest water in the world. Back in 2011, the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA) conducted a study and found that the water in the lake here has exceptional visual clarity.

The lake is located in a protected area, entry and swimming are limited. prohibited in the lake to protect the local ecosystem. It is managed by the New Zealand Department of Conservation. The stunningly clear lake is fed by water from another lake located above it. Blue Lake is beautifully located at an altitude of 1200 meters above sea level. Research shows that the already clear water of the lake above is further filtered by glacial debris, which further purifies it. Moreover, it is estimated that the lake's water is replaced every 24 hours by water from another lake.

What sets this site apart from others is that it is also sacred to the local Maori tribe Ngati Apa is therefore carefully protected. They are one of the main tribes of New Zealand's Rangitikei tribe. The Maori call it Rotomairewhenua (Lake of Peaceful Lands); Tipuna Ngāti Apa was an important part of the intertwined trail and was used as a marker.

Māori also believe that the Blue Lake is fed by the Rotopoweroa River, which flows underground. They believe the lake is a testament to the interconnectedness of nature and holds lessons for the world. Well, we couldn't agree more. Of course, it is also one of the lesser known and unusual wonders of nature.
