Light up Macau 2023 will start in December and dazzle the city

Illuminate Macau 2023, organized by the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) in collaboration with six integrated resort enterprises, will be held December 2, 2023 to February 25, 2024. The dazzling Wonderland-themed extravaganza will feature a variety of romantic and colorful light installations, interactive installations and mapping shows throughout the Macau Peninsula, Taipa and Coloane. Enchanting light art will illuminate the city, creating a unique wonderland at night. The event is designed to promote the development of public tourism and the night-time economy.

At the “Light” press conference held on November 24 up Macao 2023” MGTO director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandez said that with the arrival of December, many festivals are around the corner. "Light up Macao 2023" will cover a series of major holidays, ready for a wonderful welcome to residents and visitors on the anniversary of the founding of Macau SAR, Winter Solstice, Christmas, New Year's Eve, New Year, Chinese New Year, Valentine's Day, Renri and Chinese Festival lanterns The event, which will last for nearly three months, will create immersive light art experiences in various districts to revitalize community tourism and night-time economic development.


Boosting community economies in seven districts


Light up Macao 2023 will hit 34 locations in seven districts: District Central, Praia do Manduco District, Nam Van District, Nova de Aterros do Porto Zone (NAPE) , Northern District, Taipa and Coloane. There will be 36 light installations, 20 interactive installations and 3 areas for mapping shows. Illuminations and interactive installations will illuminate different parts of the communities at different stages. The extravaganza along the streets and alleys will expand the nightlife options, bring more residents and visitors to different communities for sightseeing and shopping, and create economic benefits for small and medium-sized businesses.


Illuminating the city with great themes


Through the integration of tourism +, Light Up Macau 2023 will combine public art and innovative technology into an exciting cultural journey through Macau. There will be a variety of light and interactive installations on various sub-themes, including “Blooming Splendor” in the Central District, “Light Up! Porto A Ma" in Praia do Manduco, "Dancing Butterflies and Blooming Wonders" in Nam Van, "Journey Around the Universe" in NAPE, "Joyful Journey" in the Northern District, "Fantasy Land" in Taipa and "Coloane Ambassadors" in Coloane. Residents and visitors of Macau can experience a dazzling wonderland. Installation will last from 19:00 to 22:00. every evening during the event.


Collaboration with integrated resorts and the involvement of international teams in the event


Six Macau integrated resort enterprises will act as event partners responsible for designing and coordinating properties in various areas to create unique cultural travel experiences, including SJM Resorts, S.A. for Central, MGM for Praia do Manduco, Wynn Resorts (Macau) S.A., Limited for Nam Van, Galaxy Entertainment Group for NAPE, Melco Resorts & Entertainment Limited for Taipa and Sands China Ltd. for Coloane. On the other hand, MGTO will take over the management of the lighting art of the Northern District. The installations in various districts are created by creative teams from mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, UK and Japan to showcase Macau's multicultural symphony in each district.

Projection mapping shows will be held at the front plaza of the Macau Science Centre, Largo dos Bombeiros in Taipa (Cozinha Pinocchio Taipa façade) and the Chapel of St. Francis Xavier in Coloane. Project teams came from Macau and two UNESCO Creative Cities of Design – Seoul, Korea and Wuhan, China. Their participation demonstrates the charm of creative city collaboration in various areas of Macau and promotes the coordinated development of "tourism + culture and creativity".
