Hometown Title Sponsors Renew Support Ahead of PGA TOUR Event's 5th Anniversary


PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Florida and HAMILTON, Bermuda – The PGA TOUR, Bermuda Tourism Authority and Butterfield today announced a multi-year extension of their co-sponsor status for the Butterfield-Bermuda Championship. The announcement was made at Port Royal Golf Course on Wednesday ahead of the fifth annual Butterfield Bermuda Championship, which debuted in 2019 as the first official PGA TOUR event on the island.


“We would like to thank the Authority Tourism Bermuda and Butterfield for their continued support of the Bermuda Championship at Butterfield, and we look forward to continuing to build on the significant charitable and economic impact this event has had on the island,” said Tyler Dennis, PGA TOUR. Chief competition specialist. “Our players and their families are thrilled to see this tournament and its world-class golf course remain on the PGA TOUR schedule.”


As part of the expanded partnership, the Butterfield Championship in Bermuda will be part of the fall tournament FedExCup PGA TOUR and will include a $6.5 million prize and 500 FedExCup points awarded to the winner. In 2022, the tournament donated $1 million to local charities and had a total economic impact of $17 million, according to a KPMG report. The Butterfield Bermuda Championship has been held at the Port Royal Golf Course in Southampton, Bermuda every year since 2019, when Brendon Todd captured the inaugural event. Last year, Seamus Power of Ireland set a tournament record with 28 birdies en route to a one-stroke victory over Belgium's Thomas Detry to capture his second career PGA TOUR title.

The 2023 tournament will begin in Thursday, Nov. 9 at Port Royal Golf Course and will air nationally on Golf Channel.
