Industry commitment sets joint direction for tourism development in Greenland

As tourism operators gather in Reykjavik for the Nordic region's largest tourism fair, Visit Greenland stands on behalf of the tourism industry and Greenland – has made a new overall commitment to more sustainable and responsible tourism development. The Common Commitment is the first step towards certification of the country's tourism industry.

The new Commitment reflects the priorities and ambitions of more than 70 tourism companies and organizations that took part in the Towards Better Tourism conference in Nuuk in April 2023. Following the conference, Greenland's wider tourism sector was also consulted on inputs, ideas and priorities in developing the commitment.

The new industry 'Commitment to Improve Tourism' reflects the overall direction for the future of tourism in Greenland, which participating companies and organizations are committed to value and support. The pledge outlines five overarching themes, including the importance of respecting and enhancing Greenland's natural and cultural assets, prioritizing local communities and businesses, and creating new and attractive tourism opportunities for young people. Overall, this commitment embodies a shared set of values and is designed to ensure tourism development for all of Greenland.
