Not far from Novi Sad is the town of Sremski Karlovci, perhaps one of the most significant cultural and historical sites in Serbia. It's no surprise that it used to be a city ahead of its time. There are many reasons for this. It was known as the seat of the Serbian Orthodox Church in the Habsburg Monarchy. This was the place where a peace treaty was signed between the two great empires - Austrian and Ottoman. It was the political and cultural capital of Serbian Vojvodina after the May Assembly and during the 1848 revolution. In addition, the first Serbian gymnasium was founded in the center of Sremski Karlovci, which still houses some of the oldest Serbian books. There are other important buildings, such as the Magistrate, where the headquarters of the municipality is now located, the Chapel of Peace, the Palace of Church Funds, theological school, boarding school, the residence of the Partiarchate, the Orthodox Cathedral, etc. All this heritage certainly speaks for the greatness, significance and influence of Karlovci on Serbian identity and culture throughout history, which is interpreted and revived through museum exhibitions and various events held in the city throughout the year.

Perhaps the most famous fact is that Sremski Karlovci is a place where you can drink a glass of good wine. Viticulture in this area has a long tradition. However, the Roman Emperor Probus recognized the fertile soil and planted the first grapevine on the slopes of Fruška Gora. He was one of those who brought wine culture to the region, which still flourishes today and makes it the main activity or hobby for most of the locals.

Karlovci wines are known everywhere. There is a special sweet dessert wine called Bermet, which has rightfully become a famous national brand. It is said to have been served on the Titanic as well as in European courts, and to have been the favorite wine of the Austrian Empress and royal families throughout Europe, so it is not surprising that wine producers selfishly keep the recipe for themselves. You just need to visit Karlovci and try this special wine, the taste of which is dominated by herbs and spices.

Vineyards are located on the mountain slopes, and wine cellars are scattered throughout the city and are easily accessible. Wherever you go, you may find yourself with a glass of wine in your hand. A wide range of flavors and brands are available, such as Riesling, Bermet, Frankovka, Merlot, Vranac, Portugieser and Ausbruch. In every wine store you can hear stories about wine production and the specific varieties that specific wineries are famous for. Of course, the sense of taste is also satisfied, since while listening to the owner, you probably hold the glass and taste the taste for yourself.

There are several wineries in the very center of the city. One of the most famous, famous thanks to Bermet, is Kish. The very long traditions of this winemaking family were taken up by the youngest, who managed to expand production capacity without forgetting their roots. The cheerful hosts are happy to welcome their guests in a very authentic atmosphere, where the tasting is often accompanied by the song “tamburashi” from Srem.

Vinum Vinum, located in the heart of Sremski Karlovci, has become a recognizable brand for quality wines in this beautiful city. Thanks to a clear vision, along with modern technologies woven from tradition, top quality wines are produced that are in great demand. Winemakers surprise again and again with their quality, creating wines from the terroir with a strong personality. Their wines have received confirmation of their quality at various international fairs and competitions, with the award received in France being the one they are most proud of.

Among the rich heritage of the beautiful town of Sremski Karlovtsi lies the Benišek Veselinović wine cellar. This is quite an interesting winery, recognized primarily for the production of high-quality brandy (rakia), which is a slightly more famous brand in Serbia. Despite the excellent quality of the brandy, the owners also demonstrate their knowledge of high-quality wines. Always with a smile, they happily greet their guests and inevitably make a toast with their famous brandy.

After many years of working and living in the Far East, the Bošković family, with a sincere love for wine, decided to fulfill their dreams in Sremski Karlovci. They planted a vineyard and built a world famous winery. Thanks to the extensive experience gained over the years, Veritas Winery has not only brought the spirit of the finest in the famous wine countries, but also brought the highest quality wine, which has been their main goal. These premium wines can be tasted at the winery, where their magic is complemented by a beautiful atmosphere in the heart of the vineyard, close to the city center.
