Estonia, Tallinn, Saaremaa, Pyarnu, Otepaa, Tartu, Rakvere, Viljandi, Hiiumaa
Eating out with kids can be stressful or fun. It all depends on where you go. Luckily, family-friendly restaurants are easy to find in Estonia.

Many restaurants have high chairs, play corners and children's menus. In addition, typical Estonian food consists of local ingredients, simple flavors and ease of preparation - perfect for tiny taste buds!

The Estonian Association of Families with Children awards a badge to family restaurants that offer first-class dining and... adults. This means you don't have to sacrifice quality when you have kids. Some of the restaurants on their list have also been included in two prestigious restaurant guides, the MICHELIN Guide and the White Guide Nordic. Let's take a closer look at the 2023 recipients.

Family-friendly restaurants in Tallinn and Northern Estonia

Several Tallinn restaurants have received the family-friendly badge. In the trendy Noblessner district you will find Lore Bistro, one of the restaurants recommended by the Estonian MICHELIN Guide. They have a kids menu and a great toy shelf. The kitchen also prepares purees for the little ones in the family.

In the city center, try Sunday brunch at the City Grill House, which has LED drawing boards for kids. After the kids are tired of swimming in the Kalev spa, head to Alley and enjoy a meal while admiring the view of Kanuti Park. Older children will enjoy the French classics at Brasserie 11, especially the unexpected performances of ballerinas and other artists.

Near the ferry terminals you'll find two good family-friendly spots. Restaurant Nero has its own menu and pictures for children to color. On Sundays they offer family brunches with ice cream, pancakes and shakes for the kids, cartoons and more. Ristorante Flavore is a casual restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere, children's animal pizzas and delicious desserts.

Rakvere is a great place for a family holiday. After a day exploring Rakvere Castle, head a little further east to Tulivee Beach Restaurant, a family restaurant with a games corner and a special children's menu.

On your way from Tallinn to Tartu, be sure to stop at the Ajatu Café Restaurant. This restaurant offers a fresh take on classic dishes and delights the eye with its collection of retro tableware. After lunch, visit the alpacas at Wile Alpaca Farm.

Where to eat with children in Tartu and South Estonia

In Tartu, check out Cafe Truffe - it is known for its cozy atmosphere and convenient space for children to move around and be active. Cafe Spargel was praised for its large games corner. Both offer menus that kids really enjoy. Outside of Tartu, head to the local heritage cafe in Juulamois. This unique eatery allows you to taste the true tastes of nature, such as spruce shoots, berries and birch sap, and welcomes families with open arms.

A restaurant worth visiting in Viljandi is which is both family-friendly and Michelin recommended: Felline. On the other side of Lake Võrtsjärv (Estonia's largest inland body of water), Ugandi Resto awaits in beautiful Otepää.

Culture lovers will want to take their little ones to Seto Tsäimaa in Setomaa. This restaurant is part of the Värska Farm Museum, making it an ideal place for those who want to experience real Seto culture.

The best options for a family evening in Pärnu

In Pärnu, families with children should definitely go to the Statka Resto restaurant. This newcomer can be found at the Pärnu Beach Stadium. The location is perfect, the children's menu is interesting, plus there is a play corner. For a sweet treat to take with you, head to one of the best bakeries in Leivakas. Kids and adults alike here will swoon at the smell of cinnamon rolls! Outside of Pärnu you will find Võrgukuur in the Ermistu holiday village. The natural setting is as attractive as the food on the plate.

Family dinner in Saaremaa and Hiiumaa

The restaurant at the George Ots Spa Hotel in Saaremaa received the award for the third year in a row - it is an absolute favorite of the whole family. Serg will definitely appeal to both adults and children. It has earned a place in the White Guide Nordic for its seasonal menu, and children will love the outdoor play area.

In Hiiumaa, visit the new Windtower entertainment center. Afterwards, treat yourself and the kids to lunch at Cafe Ruudi before heading off to explore the rest of the island.
